Mātauranga Medical model of care
Requesting an appointment (whakaaro process)
When you request an appointment at Mātauranga Medical the first person who will call you back will be a doctor or a nurse practitioner to plan with you the next steps in your care. *
If a consultation is planned or provided at this time based on your needs this may be:
- a standard general practitioner (GP) consultation, or;
- an”Awhi” consultation
Standard GP consultations are targeted towards patients whose immediate needs are considered urgent and/or complex.
Awhi consultations are are targeted towards patients whose immediate needs are considered to be low-to-medium urgency and low-to-medium complexity.
Where possible Awhi consultations are nurse-led**
Please see Fees page for details about patient charges.
*urgent requests for an appointment may be responded to by another staff member where senior clinician is not available
** at times when no nurse is available your Awhi consultation may be led by a doctor or nurse practitioner
